It's Budgeting Time!

November 09, 2017 / 0 Comments / in Microsoft Dynamics AX, ERP Software, Dynamics 365 for Operations, Dynamics 365 Enterprise, Budgeting / by Courtney Collum

The phrase “It’s budget time” generally produces a groan from everyone who participates in this time consuming, often misunderstood process. I have heard all the arguments on budgets: “It’s just a guessing game,” “How can I possibly know what is going to happen next week let alone 6 months from now,” “I have to add extra expenses because I know management is going to reduce what I submit,” “I don’t understand budgets,” “I don’t have hours to spend coming up with ‘fake’ numbers that are going to be ignored,” and “why do we need a budget if it is not always accurate?”

How to Define Key Business Processes Globally

April 21, 2017 / 0 Comments / in Microsoft Dynamics AX / by Anita Smallwood

Task Guides Make Defining Key Business Processes Globally Easier

Are you a manager or director of human resources, engineering, production, purchasing, or transportation and you are constantly taken away from your job to explain how to do business procedure "X"?  A feature called Task Recorder in Dynamics AX and Dynamics 365, can make your job more satisfying by being able to EASILY record and share the steps needed to perform a task. By using task recorder in Dynamics 365 or Dynamics AX, you are free to answer more pertinent questions; complete the actual functions required of your role instead of directing and training employees on how to perform day-to-day tasks.

This happens often to a purchasing manager I just met.  He is swamped with calls asking if he can add a vendor that costs 6K less than what is quoted in the approved vendor list?   When he replies no, a barrage of emails ensues, regarding Canada’s budget and bonus potential, nevermind why the vendor list exists in the first place.

Dynamics 365 for Operations or Dynamics AX On Premise can solve this issue through proper setups.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations supports absorption costing by enabling indirect costs to be absorbed into the product cost. Examples of indirect costing or overhead expenses include:

If you have purchased Dynamics 365, task Recorder comes pre-installed with Dynamics 365 for Operations meaning common tasks are already included and recorded.  If a particular function is not available, you can create your own task recording right after go-live.

If you are on AX,  a new Chrome extension must be installed to easily create a task recording.

Updated 02/01/2017: With the arrival of Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition for Operations, many customers and  Value Added Resellers (VARS) alike fear that Dynamics AX on-premise will vanish.  To stop this rumor, I want to share a few of our favorite details regarding Cumulative Update (CU) 12 for Microsoft Dynamics AX On-Premise (2012 R3) released just this week.  Most of these changes were made in warehouse management, transportation management, and retail areas of the product with several regulatory features added too. In addition, a new module was added to assist with processing big data called Machine Learning Integration.  And it was announced that Dynamics 365 for Operations will be available to purchase on-premise starting in June 2017 and a preview will begin in April.*
